>Brown Bear Hunts depend highly on weather, we cannot control this variable<
We recommend a 30 cal with at least 180 grain Bullets. Comfortability with your rifle is the most important factor. We recommend a low power quality scope and the ability to shoot offhand if needed.
Our 7 day Baited Brown Bear Hunts take place in South Central Alaska. We operate out of a tent based camp and hunt long hours over bait. It is roughly 12 mile ATV Ride to the hunting area. Our Blinds are elevated 8' in the air and completely cover you from the outside elements. We spend many hours building a comfortable blind that is heated and best suited for your specific hunt. This allows a hunter to use a variety of weapons to harvest his bear. We sit long hours and change baits depending on the bears habitats and the changing conditions in the spring. In this area' we target bears in 8 to 8'6" range. This does not mean you cannot take a larger bear, but more representative of the animals commonly harvest on this hunt. This hunt is great if you prefer not to experience harsh weather, poor terrain or want to use an alternative method of harvest.
Bowhunters are required to be IBEP Certified, Must have 50 pound draw and at least a 300 grain arrow. We recommend a minimum of 60 pounds, 3 blade broadhead and 450 grain arrow.
Our Spring 10 day Spot and Stalk option takes place on Kodiak Island. This is a tent based camp that takes place several miles along a river valley. Each morning we will leave camp and climb roughly 200 yards to a glassing knob. From this point we will spend many hours glassing for your bear. Not all bears we can get to, so we need to find a trophy quality bear and pursue it to cut it off. Once on the stalk, we might be required to climb various terrain that may contain thick vegetation or steep hillsides. It is common when hunting Kodiak to experience large amounts of rain. Quality gear is very important! We commonly will move from various glassing points along the hunt, but for the most part the physical portion of this hunt will happen on the stalk. Shots are 200 yards or under and we require a minimum of a 180 grain 30 caliber bullet. Archery is a possibility on this hunt, but a hunter should be ready for a challenging hunt and in top shape and marksmanship.
Our target bears in this area is 8'6-9', male and mature in age. Only 2 Hunters are booked in this area per year.
Our Fall 10 day Spot and Stalk option takes place on Kodiak Island. This is a tent based camp that takes place in the same river valley as our spring hunt. In the fall, Salmon fill the river and are a primary food source for the bears. This time of year the hunting involves a lot more still hunting. We work our way along the river finding pockets of Salmon and wait for the right bear to come to his fishing hole. This is much less physical than the spring hunt, but can potential see more rain. The rain has less affect on the hunt as there is no glassing typically involved. This hunt has the benefit of typically bears at this heaviest weights and there is less concern of rubbing of the hide. The hunter should expect to be sitting for long hours along the river, wearing waders or rubber boots. Quality Rain gear is very important. Only 2 of these hunters are booked per year.
